IELTS Writing
WRITING 2
Success in Task 2 is not about using difficult vocabulary; it is about answering the question clearly, organizing ideas logically, and supporting them well.
What Makes a High-Scoring Essay?
The biggest difference between average and high-scoring essays is idea development. Strong candidates don't just present opinions—they explain why something is true, how it works, and support it with a relevant example. Clear organization, accurate grammar, and natural vocabulary are important, but they are most effective when built around well-developed arguments.
The Four Band Descriptors
The IELTS Writing Task 2 band descriptors assess four criteria, each worth 25% of the score:
Task Response – Did you answer the question fully and develop your ideas?
Coherence and Cohesion – Is your essay organized logically?
Lexical Resource – How accurately and naturally do you use vocabulary?
Grammatical Range and Accuracy – How accurately and flexibly do you use grammar?
